What am I talking about? This shit.
Come on ladies, as if dating isn't already hard enough, are we really going to make this an expectation? Cause listen, I get it, it's fun and cute and it's always nice to see that someone cares...but maybe we should be more focused on whether or not the guy has a rap sheet. Maybe it's just me, but 6 years in the clink does not get washed away with a simple good morning text. Shit, for all I know, dream boy is getting a good morning text at the same time from his old cell mate, Bubba.
Really though, these relationship memes are giving girls unrealistic expectations. We want good morning and good night texts, roses at work, notes left around the house, 'just because' gifts, and every other thing under the sun. Do those really get to be dealbreakers? Shouldn't dealbreakers be stuff like "he has to respect me" and "he needs to have life goals". Do we really get to be pissy when we don't get a goodnight text because the boy fell asleep while texting? Shouldn't we be flattered that he was fighting off sleep to text in the first place?
Not only that, but what do you think posing this on Facebookd does? Are you trying to 'subtly hint' that you want this from the boy who probably doesn't even look at your Facebook? Because maybe you should try just telling him.
Listen to me, and listen to me carefully. You're not that special. Sorry. I know your mom told you that you were a unique little flower, and maybe you are, but it doesn't matter if you're a crazy unique little flower.
Sometimes relationships don't work out. Fact. That doesn't mean you're not worthwhile, and that doesn't mean he's a douche. It means that it didn't work out and that's that. At no point does it mean that you messed up...well, unless you texted him every 10 minutes asking where he was, wanting to know who he was, and implying that he cheated on you with that slut Brittany because you saw her eye banging him from across the bar. Then yes, it was your fault. But that's not the point. The point is, he's moved on, he may not be a douche, and that there are other people that will love him the way he deserves to be loved. Effin' deal.
Unless that someone else is her, eff this shit.
I mean come on! Is this the message we really want to be spreading? That we can't be happy unless someone else in our lives does it for us? That we can't possibly be happy with our awesome jobs, good friends, supportive family, and 2 cats that only mildly judge us?
For the love of God, please stop thinking like this...please. Not only is it completely irrational to expect someone else to make us happy, it's completely selfish as well. Why should some other person have to carry the burden of our happiness? And when they fail, which they inevitably will since it's not their job to begin with, we've just doomed a relationship. And why? Because we didn't want to put in the effort to be happy with ourselves. That's why.
We expect someone to fix our lives, lives that we've decided aren't good enough, and when they can't meet the unrealistic expectations we have, we throw them away and decide to 'uprade'. Maybe this boy will text me every morning. Maybe this boy will leave post-its on my mirror. Maybe this boy will send me roses at work. Maybe this boy will fix what I've refused to fix...my sense of self.
