Question:

Why is it that we, as women, can be fully aware that we function differently than men...the way we think, the way we speak, the way we emote, the way we stifle expectations...

And then at the end of the day, we still find ourselves upset even though we already knew the outcome.

Are our feelings really that much bigger than us? Do we really lack that much control? When did rationality and logic become so difficult?

Let me throw out a hypothetical that we all know isn’t a hypothetical. But for the sake of my sanity, and me being able to be at least somewhat candid, lets pretend together that this is all fiction...

Girl meets boy online. Girl thinks boy is cute, they chat, exchange numbers, and text for far too long.

Red flag #1. Texting for over a month and never meeting up. Is that weird to anyone else? Cause it probably should be.

Texts get more flirtatious over time, and although there’s still conversation outside of flirtation, it’s becoming more and more limited.

Red flag #2. Are things moving from potential relationship to purely physical? Is that person only interested because it’s physical? Is that okay with both parties?

Alcohol gets involved. You’re drinking, they’re drinking...”Hey, you want to hang out?” Well, we all know what that means, and if you don’t, you should probably stop reading now because I don’t want to corrupt you with my purely hypothetical story.

Red flag #3. You meet when alcohol is involved. Are you not good enough to meet sober?

I don’t need to tell you what happens next. We all know. No regrets, and I mean that honestly because I’d rather meet under less than perfect circumstances than never meet and wonder...

But I will fill you in on part of the ending, which I’m sure you already know, because as women we all know. The texting stops, you don’t get the after work text asking how your day is going, and if you do end up sending a text, maybe you get a response....6 hours later. But chances are you won’t, and that’s kind of okay, because you were expecting it. Although even though you expected him to be a total shithead, you’re still kinda hurt, because you were hoping for something...

For what? I don’t know. Maybe for someone to surprise you, and actually call or text the next day. Thinking maybe after chatting for 2 months, you couldn’t be so easily discarded.

Funny, knowing the outcome before it happens doesn’t make it hurt any less.
